The wind is no joke today!From Goodland National Weather Service: Hurricane force wind gusts are expected along the Interstate 70 corridor in eastern Colorado and northwest Kansas between sunrise and noon today.

Damaging W to NW winds (40-55 mph gusting up to 75 mph) will overspread the region early this morning and persist through early afternoon. Wind of this magnitude will down trees and power lines. Property damage and power outages are likely... along with very dangerous travel and fire weather conditions, especially along and north of I-70 this morning through early afternoon. Although winds will gradually decrease in intensity during the afternoon... strong W to NW winds (30-45 mph gusting up to 60 mph) are likely to persist until sunset this evening.

At 1:53 am MDT this morning (Sunday April 07)... the automated observing site in Akron, CO (KAKO) measured sustained winds of 51 mph gusting to 68 mph.

At 2:19 am MDT this morning (Sunday April 07)... the automated observing site in Yuma, CO (K2V6) measured sustained winds at 43 mph gusting to 68 mph.

At 3:36 am MDT this morning (Sunday April 07)... the National Weather Service in Goodland, KS (KGLD) measured sustained winds at 40 mph gusting up to 61 mph.
