Impounded Vehicles

The Thomas County Impound Lot holds vehicle's for our office, the Kansas Highway Patrol, and the Colby Police Department.  If you are wanting to get a vehicle out that was impounded by the Thomas County Sheriff's Office or the Kansas Highway Patrol, please contact our office at (785) 460-4570, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (225 N. Court Ave., Colby, KS).  Impounded vehicles will not be released on holidays.

If you are wanting to get a vehicle out that was impounded by the Colby Police Department, please contact the Colby Police Department at (785) 460-4460, Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (360 N. Franklin Ave., Colby, KS).  Impounded vehicles will not be released on holidays.

Fees for Thomas County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Highway Patrol impounded vehicles are calculated using the below formula:

  Full Tow Bill from Towing Company
  + $40 Impound Fee
  + $10 Daily Fee

 

 

 

 

Daily Fees are started the day and time the vehicle is impounded.  Each concurring day begins at the time the vehicle was impounded.  For example, if a vehicle is impounded at 8 a.m. on Monday, the vehicle will start off with a $10 daily fee (as well as impound and tow fees).  Tuesday at 8 a.m. will be considered the beginning of day two and there will now be a $20 fee (as well as impound and tow fees).
